A word to dear parents
PRINCIPAL'S PEN
A parent can be instrumental in the child's growth -----
Parents' involvement in their children education is absolutely essential to their eventual success. Surprisingly enough, the result of every student done in the last two decades about what affects a child's success in school concludes that only one factor overwhelmingly affects it every time, parental involvement. Not the size of the school, the number of science labs, the size of library of how many great teachers there are! But none is as significant as the effect parents can have
Here are some determining guidelines :-
Be on the lookout for common signs of stress such as trouble sleeping, emotional mood changer, lose of appetite, skin ailments, and stomach upset.
Be patient, controlled and calm in the run up to examinations. Anxiety is infectious.
Make sure there is place available at home where the student can work alone or wherever he likes with confidence.
Make it clear that your son or daughter is valued for reasons entirely unconnected with academic progress.
Praise commitment as well as success and try to put the examination in perspective. Show interest in their achievements outside school work also.
Avoid offering rewards such as money, clothes or cars Young people may feel that they are being manipulated, and it might stop them developing intrest in the subject for its own mistake. So lets join hands and make a difference !
What parents should do :-
Ensure good family environment
Regular monitoring
Appreciation and encouragement
Follow a patient approach.
“ A PARENT-- A COUNSELOR “
Are we ready for double role
We limit our thinking process to our responsibility as a parent. It's high time the step out of parenting role and assure the role of a counselor.
We must not overlook the fact that our child does not have to be great in ACADEMICS in order to be successful. These are innumerable examples of mediocres who excelled in their life by getting into professions and careers of their interest.
So if you find from self constantly at war with your child, to study hander, get higher marks in best and concentrate in his studies more, then it is high time you step out and focus on other areas as well.
We can make a beginning by accepting our child with all his strength and weaknesses. Make him realize that you are always with him in his success as well as failures.
ENCOURAGE him at every step and monitor his progress not only as a critic but by patting and occasional hugs and motivational suggestions
Identify their positive traits and appreciates them the synonym of parenting is patience. As a councilor we need a high degree of patience especially when dealing us the adolescents as this is the age of considerable stress for a child.
A patient hearing of the child's viewpoint helps in encouraging his creativity which as often lost in cut throat competition.
Allowing the child to develop in natural way is sure to have a long lasting impact. So allow them to experiment in their own way but with in a logical framework.
Teach from child by from example to look at a glass as half full and not as half empty let them learn to look at the roses and not at the thorns.
The secret of success, is an “ I CAN” attitudes. Let them talk freely on their likes and dislikes once in a while. Set with them and prepare their achievements list. Ever if it contains only few items right now, it will motivate them to achieve more and more.
Restless children often exhaust there selves to sleep and are unable to focus on any single activity. This can hamper their development take an afternoon nap with from child of read out from his favourite book to help him relax and wind down.
Children learn by example. If you are happy from self, you would create the right kind of ambience for your children to pick up the skill.
MISTAKES ARE THE STEPPING STONES TO LEARNING !
“All men make mistakes, but only wise men learn from their mistakes”
Some of us regret our mistakes every moment of everyday, but smart people learn from their mistakes.
But then, wise people learn from the mistakes of others. Learning from mistakes is the best way to self EDUCATION.
Take a lesson from Thomas Carlyle who said, “Do not be embarrassed by your mistakes. Nothing can teach us better than our understanding of them”
There are many examples where great people have learnt from their mistakes.
Recalling the incident, Greatbatch said, “The oscillator required a 10,000 ohm resistor at the transistor base,I reached in to my resistor box for one, but I misread the colour coding and got a 1 mega ohm resistor by mistake.
He was about to decoder it. Wait! He thought for a moment that this can be a pacemaker. These pulses and device could regulate the heartbeat .He “stared at the thing in disbelief.”
He had just discovered the way to drive a human heart, from a mistake. After two years f refinement and re-refinement, he had the first successful implantable pacemaker.
THUS its okay to make mistakes . Mistakes are our teachers-they help us to learn.” John Bradshaw said making mistakes without learning from them is a great sin.
Inferior men do not start (any endeavour)
With the fear of obstructions.
Average men stop midway
When they are faced with problems
Even though obstacles strike repeatedly
Superior men never give up their efforts.
EXTINCTION OF FIRST HAND EXPERIANCE IN SCHOOL GOING CHILDREN IN TODAYS WORLD
When children are allowed to play freely their first choice is to flee to the nearest wild/open place whether it is a big tree or bushy area in the yard nearby.
Now a day’s many childrens’envoirments had become urbanised. But even than children had access to nature and world at large.
They spent bulk of their recreation time outdoor,
USING sidewall, streets, PLAYGROUND, PARK, GREENWAYS and other places “left over” during the urbanisation PROCESS..
Children today are much different. Children are HAVING few opportunities for outdoor free play and regular contact with the natural world.
Their physical boundaries are shrunk. A culture of fear is prevailing and parents are afraid of their children safety.
A study found the 82% of mothers with their children between the AGES of 3 to 12 identified crime and safety concerns as one of the primary reason they don’t allow their children to play outdoors.
Due to stranger danger many children are no longer free to roam their neighbourhood or even their own yard unless accompanied by adults.
Many working families cannot supervise their children after school giving rise to latchkey children who stay indoors or attend supervised after school activities.
Furthermore, children’s live have become structured and scheduled by adults, who hold the mistaken belief that this sport or that lesson will make their children more successful as adults.
The culture of childhood that played outside is gone and children’s everyday life has shifted to the indoors.
As a result, children’s opportunities for direct and spontaneous contact with nature in a vanishing experience of childhood or we can call it imprisonment. Not only children play environment is changed but even the time they have to play has decreased.
The importance of children’s interaction with nature.
It is well known fact that the natural environment has profound effect on the well being of adults, including better psychological well being .The finding indicate that
Children who are in contact with nature score higher on tests of concentration and self discipline.
Children who play regularly in natural enenvironments show more advanced motor fitness, including coordination, balance and agility, and they are sick less often.
When children in natural play in natural environment, their play is more diverse with imaginative and creative play that fosters language and collaborative skills.
Expose to natural environments improves children’s cognitive development by improving their awareness, reasoning and observational skills.
Nature buffers the impact of life stress on children and helps them deal with adversity.
Play in a diverse natural environment reduces or eliminates bulling.
Nature helps children develop powers of observation and creativity.
Early experiences with the natural world have been positively linked with the development of imagination and the sense of wonder. It DEVELOPS positive feelings among peer group.
A decrease in children’s time spent outdoors is contributing to an increase in children’s myopia.
Outdoor environment IS impotent to children’s development of independence and autonomy.
Children and society AS A whole can benefit significantly by maximising both the informal play and formal learning oppotunitiesthat natural schoolyard offer children. When natural schoolyards are also integrated with the full curriculum, they ENHANCE both children’s academics and environmental education.
